Description

Ranked as a 2nd degree historical heritage site by the PEPCH. 17th century. It features a facade with a Carmelite style: with a semi-circular arch flanked by pilasters, central niche with pinnacles and shields of the Order on both sides with a triangular pediment. Inside, the church has a Latin cross plan and the courtyard has a double porticoed gallery. To this day, it is inhabited by the Barefoot Carmelite nuns, famous for their pastry work. This Convent was founded on the initiative of Doña Jerónima Enríquez de Carvajal, 'in the houses of her residence which are in the Parish of Santo Tomás', in March 1595; its first Prioress being the Reverend Mother Ana de la Encarnación, a companion of Saint Teresa.
