San Miguel Church
Description
Attached to the convent bearing the same name, this church was built in the 19th century in the Neo-Renaissance style. It consists of three naves with a transept, covered by barrel vaults and a half-orange dome with a large lantern in the transept. In 1627, the oratory that is part of the convent was built to house the tomb of Saint John of the Cross, being the first temple in the Catholic world built in his honor. It includes a small high choir located where the cell in which the Saint died was, and where his relics are preserved.
