Úbeda , Jaén Civil building

Description

Ranked 2nd degree by the PEPCH. 17th century. Residence with a peculiar facade decorated in the Italian style with coffered panels and semicircular glazed ceramic appliques in blue. Two tenantes hold the coat of arms of D. Gil Ortega y Sotomayor, resident of the Palace and canon of Santa María. On both sides of the coat of arms, two reliefs represent the seal of the Basilica of Santa María. One of these reliefs is of Ntra. Sra. de la Asunción, and the other of San Julián, the canon's patron saint and Bishop of Cuenca, who had the habit of making wicker baskets in his spare time. Hence the name of the House.
