Francisco de los Cobos Palace
Description
Classified as a 2nd degree historical heritage site. Dating back to the 16th century, it was the residence of the secretary of Emperor Charles V, a nobleman who rose from a young age to acquire maximum responsibility in 16th century Spain. The current building originates from the expansion of the previous century's family house. After suffering a serious fire, its grand facade remained standing. It stands out for its sobriety, featuring only heraldic elements (similar to those on the capitals of the interior gallery) such as the cross and shells, symbols of the Order of Santiago to which Francisco de los Cobos belonged. Opposite the palace, in the alley, is the building that in 1808 was the Casa Cuna, an institution responsible for taking in abandoned children. They were placed in a turnstile next to the door to protect them inside. The gap where the turnstile was located is still preserved to this day.
